No Peeking Jess!

T3-who-is-about-to-turn-four has a little friend who will also be turning four on the Very Same Day. That’s special ;-)
Little friend would like a knitted hat, and Little Friend’s Mummy chose some wool from my stash last night. I love it when people choose a nice chunky fast wool! Today I whipped up the hat and a wee scarf to match.

Here are the patterns for posterity’s sake.

For the hat, on 6mm circular needles cast on 72 stitches. Knit until nearly long enough (I added in some feathers-y yarn for a few rounds after the rolled brim). Knit two together and then knit a round even until five stitches are left. I added feathers again at this point and di i-cord for a couple of inches. Pull the yarns through the remaining stiches and then fold over and sew down at the base of the i-cord. Easy peasy lemon squeezy.

For the scarf, on 9mm needles, cast on 12 stitches with the main wool. Knit six or seven or eight (I can’t remember – I just went until the feathers ran out) rows garter stich with the main wool and the feathers.
Purl a row. Knit four, knit two together, two yarn overs, knit two together, knit four.
Purl the next row, working into the back of the second yarn over.
Continue in stocking stich until you have reached almost the desired length. Do eight rows garter stitch. Add the biggest button you can find and you’re done.
